
Sweetwater Union High School District, Prop O
Project Description
In 2007, Sweetwater Union High School District – California’s largest secondary school district – passed Proposition O, a $644 million school construction bond program to modernize and rebuild its 32-campus educational facilities. M+M was tasked with developing a specialized public outreach program regarding the District’s bond program, which spans a nine-year period.
Program Objectives
- Create a positive, open environment to exchange information and communicate project developments regarding the community’s tax investment.
- Create and maintain a public trust regarding the value and integrity of the program
- Implement and maintain a multi-level communications program as a resource for all levels of stakeholders, including:
- State and local elected officials
- Regional appointed official
- Community groups and leaders
- District-wide faculty, administrators, students, and parents
- Regional media
Results:
To-date, efforts have garnered general and business community, construction industry, local government, and key stakeholder support. The project has been recognized by the Construction Management Association of America for its successful planning and design management; key management now sits on advocacy boards for green building and educational facility development; and the project is receiving welcomed positive feedback from its local community.
