Devonna Almagro brings 10 years of experience in the fields of public affairs, politics, and advocacy to the Marston+Marston team. Her expertise in implementing grassroots communications and community outreach programs throughout her work with government entities, elected officials, and community-based organizations has enabled her to ensure successful strategic planning and implementation of our clients’ public affairs programs.
Devonna currently manages the communications and outreach programs for two school districts based in San Diego’s South County. She serves as a liaison for the Districts’ school construction bond programs in the South Bay community, facilitating direct dialogue between the construction management team, faculty/staff, students, parents and the community-at-large. Through the multi-layered outreach conducted, she has been able to build public understanding, broad participation, and productive partnerships regarding new school construction, allowing her to fully engage all segments of the community.
Prior to joining M+M, Devonna worked as a consultant for a San Diego-based firm, where she developed and implemented outreach strategies to maximize participation and promote civic engagement within local and statewide nonprofit and political organizations, including the San Diego County Crime Commission, and the California Democratic Party-2007 Statewide Convention.
Almagro has a strong foundation of local and statewide political activism. She began her career serving as an aide to U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer, followed by working field operations for Democratic candidates throughout Southern California, and in 2006, led the San Diego County coordinated campaign for the California Democratic Party. Her experience in creating and employing bilingual communication strategies to engage diverse constituencies led her to serve as the Deputy Field Director for the Democratic Party of Orange County, where she mobilized grassroots support for local candidates and initiatives. In 2007, during President Obama’s first Los Angeles rally since the announcement of his presidential campaign, Devonna worked with the President’s consulting team and served as a spokesperson for Spanish-language media.
Devonna continues her political involvement by being a member of numerous organizations. Her involvement and commitment to mentor and involve young students in civic engagement activities, led to her serving as a delegate to the 2008 Democratic National Convention. She is a member of the United Nations Association of San Diego, and due to her service and advocacy work, was invited to be part of the delegation to the 2009 Annual Session of the United Nation’s Commission on the Status of Women in New York City.
Devonna holds a dual bachelor’s degree in Ethnic Studies and Spanish, with a minor in Communication Studies from the University of San Diego.
