Jeff Marston is president and government relations director for Marston+Marston, Inc. Marston’s background in, and keen understanding of, both public relations and public policy has allowed him to fully integrate the two. Marston brings over thirty years of community relations expertise and a proven track record of working with people of very diverse opinions throughout a given decision making process.

Prior to joining his wife, Myrna at M+M, Marston was senior vice president of another San Diego-based public relations firm where he spent nearly four years serving as the lobbyist for the City of San Diego in Sacramento. Before his employment there, Marston was a member of the California State Assembly representing San Diego’s 78th District. While in the State Assembly, Marston served on the Committees on Education, Housing and Community Development and Revenue and Taxation.

Marston was a legislative aide and field representative for the late U.S. Senator S.I. Hayakawa in Washington, D.C. and San Diego and served on the staff of both Congressman Duncan Hunter and former San Diego City Councilwoman Gloria D. McColl. In these capacities, Marston specialized in legislative and policy analysis and community relations.

Marston was appointed in 1994 by Governor Pete Wilson to serve a six-year term as a member, and subsequently two-term chairman, of the California Postsecondary Education Commission, (CPEC). Marston was also appointed by Governor George Deukmejian to be a member of the Advisory Board of the Commission of the Californias and serves on the California Conservation Corps Community Advisory Board. Marston is board chairman of the Ambassadors for Higher Education at San Diego State University and president-elect of the San Diego State Alumni Association. He is a member of the San Diego Community College District Trustee Advisory Council and recently completed his second term as a member of the San Diego Community College District’s Citizen Oversight Committee for the Proposition N and S bond measures, including a term as vice-chairman.

Among other activities, Marston is board president of the Mesa College Foundation, Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership-California and the Balboa Theatre Foundation and a board member of Ground Works San Diego/Chollas Creek. In addition, Marston serves on the Public Policy, Legislative, Education, and Energy and Water committees of the San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce and as a member of the Public Policy Committee of the South County Economic Development Council.

A native of Englewood, New Jersey, Marston graduated from the American School of Guadalajara, Mexico in 1973 and received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from San Diego State University in 1977.
