Myrna Marston founded Marston+Marston Public and Community Relations in 1997 in an entrepreneurial effort to expand her communications and public relations expertise to markets throughout the region.

One of Myrna’s first clients was the information services division of the aerospace company Lockheed Martin. For Lockheed, Myrna developed a countywide public relations initiative to communicate the benefits of the passage of President Clinton’s 1997 Welfare Reform for 60,000 San Diego families on welfare. Billed “San Diego Works,” the public relations initiative resulted in the outreach program becoming a statewide model and established Marston+Marston as a leading San Diego public relations agency. In 1999 the U.S. Small Business Administration named Marston+Marston “Business of the Year” for its welfare reform public relations program.

For the past 14 years, Myrna has continued to build the firm’s expertise in regional public affairs issues. Working with her professional staff, Myrna developed communications and outreach programs for many of San Diego’s most recognizable infrastructure projects, including the Otay Mesa Generating Facility’s 600 megawatt power plant for PG&E National Energy Group; the proposed $1 billion Stadium Redevelopment Project for the San Diego Chargers; the $750 million, six-mile extension of the San Diego Trolley from Mission Valley to San Diego State University for Metropolitan Transit System, and Otay Water District’s outreach and communications for its ratepayers and regional stakeholder audiences. She is currently overseeing the outreach and communications program for Sweetwater Union High School District’s $644 million school bond construction program.

Prior to founding the firm, Myrna held the position of Director of Public Relations for the 1996 Republican National Convention held in San Diego where she was responsible for creating and executing official host committee and media events, including “Conversations with Elizabeth Dole,” which aired live on C-Span, and “An Evening with Henry Kissinger,” for state leaders and diplomats. Marston was also responsible for general media communications for the host committee and advance work for Elizabeth Dole’s public appearances in San Diego.

Myrna’s career in public relations began with her appointment in 1993 as an aide to San Diego Mayor Susan Golding. She served as the Mayor’s confidential assistant, overseeing scheduling, staff advance, communications, and speechwriting.

Marston is active in local business and community affiliations and is committed to providing pro-bono services to community-based organizations. Myrna is an avid tennis player and also enjoys running and hiking.
